VSG Control Technology for Addressing Inertia Deficiency
Integrating distributed power sources via power electronic converters reduces overall inertia in power systems, contributing to grid instability. Unlike synchronous generators that store inertial power through rotating magnetic fields, converters transform direct current (DC) from photovoltaic systems and batteries into alternating current (AC) without storing energy. To compensate, energy storage devices are integrated with converters, using Virtual Synchronous Generator (VSG) control technology to mimic inertial power. Our laboratory is working to enhance and develop stable, advanced applications for this technology with theoretical validation.
